JDK 13: The Latest Java is Coming

 

The development of the latest Java Development Kit (JDK 13) is running smoothly and is now in Rampdown Phase Two. This means that the overall feature set is frozen, with no further JEPs to be targeted to this release.

 

There will be an initial release candidate on the 8th of August and the general availability is currently scheduled this coming 17th of September, 2019. The following are the new features are expected to come with the Java 13::

 

350: Dynamic CDS Archives

351: ZGC: Uncommit Unused Memory

353: Reimplement the Legacy Socket API

354: Switch Expressions (Preview)

355: Text Blocks (Preview)
