Rock that job interview! Here are awesome tips from hiring managers

Filipino IT hiring managers are always on the lookout for the best talents out there...  And because we want you to be one step closer to your dream job, we had to reach out to our special sources to get inside info from these tech managers who may or may not be the key to your potential job offer. Here’s what they had to say:

Review the company’s mission & vision
It’s no secret that most tech jobs pay well and it’s not far-fetched to assume they’d expect you to actually want to work for their company — not just for the money. It’s like a tech love story in the making; they want you to want them for who they are and not just what they can offer you. Understand their point of view by going through their mission and vision as a company. Doing this may help you use the right keywords in your interview. That’s why if you’re a walk-in applicant, you have to give yourself a few minutes to do a quick Google search with your phone and have at least an idea what industry you’re working for. Never go in unprepared.

Own up to your mistakes

It’s common to build on your strengths and believe you can do the impossible. However, such is not the case all the time. You have to be self-aware (and pretty much honest and humble) to admit your shortcomings. The point is to use the right narrative and stray away from the negativity; focus on how you managed to get yourself out of the problem. For instance, how about explaining your interesting approach to a challenging project you just finished? A persistent attitude — one that never quits — can give potential managers a good and lasting impression to show how determined you really are as a person.

Soft skills count too
You can have all the tech knowledge in the entire country but that probably won’t get you far if you can’t communicate properly. After all, you won’t be spending 24/7 in front of the computer anymore. Now, you train with your colleagues. You talk to associates personally — not just through chat or a phone call (and even these channels require certain etiquette to come across as polite). The right attitude can take you to higher places.

You’re ready to apply!

With these guidelines, you would be better equipped to handle future tech interviews. In the same way, we hope this article can also help you to be more intentional in terms of how you approach your job. From here on out, solve tech problems with a different, fresh set of eyes. You’ll realize that the more you pay attention to your approach, the more skills you’re actually harnessing or developing. Hence, always stay on your toes to make sure you don’t miss out on your progress — especially those you can narrate in an interview!
